Location of Orient in Lower Saxony

Morgenland is a farming community in Seefeld in the municipality of Stadland .

history

History of land reclamation around the Orient

The settlement is located on a dike built in 1570. The area East was formed by the damming of the new Hobens in 1591, here was Lockfleth pushed back. It is a planned settlement of the Oldenburg Count. Settlement of the area began before 1613, at which time 12 farms had already been set up. A school was built in 1644 and ceased operations in 1886. Due to the planned development of the New Hobens north of Morgenland, Count Anthon Günther is the obvious choice as the developer. Based on the surviving surnames, it can be assumed that the settlement was carried out by Frisians. At the same time, the villages of Abbehausergroden and Esenshammergroden were created.

Surname

In 1613, the place was still referred to as "In the arm on the Schweierseiten" and as the "so-called Orient". Albrecht Eckhardt expresses the assumption in the Oldenburg local lexicon that the name could have something to do with the “heavenly region” because Morgenland is east of Seefelderaußendeich, the old core of the Seefeld community.

In his dissertation, Johannes Ey shows the name as a corruption of "Mooreckenland", a country on the edge of the Schweier Moor. There are many similarly imaginative names in the nearby new establishments of the modern era, such as Alte Kanzlei , Rasenwasser , Hobensühne or Gut Gnadenfeld .

Administrative history

Morgenland belonged to the Vogtei Bailiwick . From 1933 to 1948, Morgenland was part of the Abbehausen community . Morgenland has belonged to the municipality of Stadland since 1974.
