Louis Wallée (also Ludwig Wallée, Louis Vallée, * 1773 in Berleburg , † March 12, 1838 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian landscape painter.

Life

Wallée came from a French immigrant family.

He came to Salzburg around 1795 and stayed there for life. After training as a painter in Berchtesgaden , he went on study trips to the Salzkammergut and Upper Austria .

He created landscapes and cityscapes, mostly in watercolor . Many of them served as templates for etchings and copper engravings . Wallée painted a. a. Views of the villages of Suben , Engelhartszell and Mondsee in Upper Austria, the waterfalls near Golling and Gastein , and the Königsee in Berchtesgaden. In 1799 he painted the most beautiful views of Berchtesgaden, which appeared in the subscription to the “Salzburg Intelligence Journal”.

His works came to the imperial and princely art collections, also in France and England.

In Boissy-Saint-Léger and Sucy-en-Brie streets were named after him.
