The Seeleinsee , or just Seelein for short, also referred to as the Schlungsee in map series, is an outflow-free mountain lake in the Hagen Mountains . Politically, the lake belongs to the German municipality of Schönau am Königssee , district (until December 31, 1983, municipality-free area ) Forst Königssee. The lake is 110 meters long and a maximum of 53 meters wide from southwest to northeast. Its area measures around 4150 m² and its circumference around 250 meters. The water is of drinking water quality. The 1809 m above sea level. NHN high-lying waters are in the Schlunggraben, which, coming from the Hochgschirr pass, pulls north towards the Windscharte. In the east it is towered over by the Hochseeleinkopf and the Kahlersberg , over whose summit the nearby German-Austrian border runs. In the northwest, the foothills of the Fagstein seal it off from the Königssee .
In late winter, the lake is covered by ice until well into May, at other times the water level is clear and calm. The lake is a popular resting point for mountain hikers, as it is on the path between the Schneibstein and the Röth and paths to the alpine pastures above the Königsee branch off south of the lake. The popular ski and hiking routes for the little ones and the Großer Reibn lead past the Seeleinsee.
In addition to the Bergwachthütte ( Seeleinsee-Hütte or Seeleinsee-Diensthütte ), which was completed in 1959 and is located at 1890 m , 190 meters as the crow flies northwest of the lake, about 170 meters to the northeast are the remains of the wall of the dilapidated Seeleinalm (also Schlummalm ). The closest managed alpine hut is the Gotzenalm .
