Selective culture medium
A selective culture medium is a culture medium which favors the growth of a certain group of microorganisms, for example certain bacteria , while it suppresses the development of other microorganisms. This happens due to the composition of the nutrient medium, since microorganisms have different needs with regard to the culture medium in terms of nutrient composition , pH value etc. and because some substances inhibit other microorganisms in their growth.
