geography

location

The village of Sella, surrounded by fields, was seven kilometers northwest of Koenigsbrück on the edge of the Großenhainerpflege . The square village with a corridor stretched into the hollow of a small side stream to the Dürrwiesengraben. The center of the village consisted of three and four-sided courtyards, which were lined up on both sides of the stream; the upper and lower ends of the village were hallways. To the east the demarcation fell to the valley of the Dürrwiesengraben, which flows into the Pulsnitz ; behind it extends the Krakauer Heide on the Lusatian side . The village was surrounded by numerous peaks: north of the Eichberg ( 186  m ) and the Weinberg ( 184  m ), northeast of Krakauer Berg ( 172  m ), east of the Kiefernberge ( 166  m ), southeast of Königshöhe ( 195  m ), south of the Laaken ( 183  m ), southwest of the Vorwerkberg ( 204  m ), northwest of the Galgenberg ( 190  m ) and the Horstberg ( 190  m ). The GSSD's Königsbrück base of operations has been located south of the village since the 1980s .

history

The first mention of Sellende comes from the year 1353. Sella was located in the northeast of the Mark Meissen near the Pulsnitz , which formed the border to Upper Lusatia . In 1406 the village belonging to Grossenhain was called Selle . Other forms of the name were Selne (1502) and Sellawe (1540). The village was named Sella since 1551 .

There is evidence of a Vorwerk since 1417. Sella was parish in Cracow since 1540 . From 1551 the village was always subject to the Krakow manor. Administratively, Sella belonged to the Hayn office from 1696 and to the Kamenz office from 1843.

With the reorganization of the Saxon administrative structures, Sella was assigned to the Königsbrück court office in 1856 and to the Kamenz administration in 1875 . In 1938, the municipality of Sella was dissolved as part of the expansion of the Königsbrück military training area . The property of the village was bought by the German Reich and the 120 inhabitants were resettled. The 455 hectare parish corridor became part of the military training area.

After the end of the Second World War, the military training area was seized by the Soviet occupying forces . A repopulation of the undestroyed village was not permitted by the local commander of the Red Army in Königsbrück for military reasons. The village was later shot to death.

Around 1980 the GSSD established the Königsbrück operations base on the Laaken, a hill between the Dürrwiesengraben, the Pulsnitz and the Bohraer Wasser, which was active from May 1984. In 1992 the last Soviet troops withdrew, the area became a nature reserve Koenigsbrücker Heide , but is only accessible to a very limited extent due to the high load of ammunition. The village of Sella is now completely enclosed by the heather forest and partially wooded, and remains of walls have been preserved on two areas of meadow. The Königsbrück base of operations was dismantled around 2000.
