Selma is a city in the US state of Texas .

It was founded in 1847 and is located about 25 km northeast of San Antonio in the south of the state.

According to the US statistics office, the city had 5540 inhabitants in 2010, according to the official census in 2000 only 788 inhabitants.

The Interstate 35 leads centrally through Selma ; two-thirds of the metropolitan area is in Bexar County , a quarter in Guadalupe County and the rest in Comal County . Thus, the city is also divided into three independent school districts.

About 65% of the adults in Selma are married; Selma is one of the richer cities in Texas: the median household income in 2000 was $ 62,344. Around 89% of employees drive to work.
