Lists on the subject |
The Semmerling LM4 is the most compact multi-shot weapon in .45 ACP caliber . It is a Five shot multi-loading pistol with clamping departure , as covertly supporting reserve primarily service weapon is intended.
Concept and story
The Semmerling pistol originally dates from the 1980s. The market price at that time was US $ 750. It was initially for the US Army and federal authorities of the United States constructed.
The aim of the LM4 was to create a handgun that was as compact, light and easy to conceal as possible with the greatest possible firepower. Therefore, the large .45 ACP caliber was chosen because of its well-known high man-stopping effect, and a manual repeating system was chosen in favor of its low weight and compact dimensions. If you will, this concept is exactly the opposite of that of weapons like the Kel-Tec P-32 , whose designer relied on a smaller caliber and semi-automatic .
With only 33 parts (including the screws), the Semmerling is also one of the simplest pistols ever designed. Originally every single part was made of HSS steel except for the springs .
Each individual pistol was hand-made to order, which is why only about ten copies were produced per month on average. Therefore, initially only about 600 pieces were made.
Extremely strict quality assurance ensured the highest level of reliability and functionality. Although the Semmerling was primarily intended for close-range combat at short distances, it was not least because of its high-quality production that it was characterized by great precision, so that an experienced shooter can achieve excellent shooting performance with it even at greater distances.
Since 1995, a new edition made of stainless steel has been available from American Derringer to order.
Surfaces, equipment, accessories

Function and operation
The Semmerling fires when the bolt is locked and produces a powerful recoil . The barrel mechanism must be manually pushed forward to eject the fired case and then pulled backward again to load the next cartridge . This repeating process can be performed with one hand with the thumb.
