The Sempor Dam (Sempor Dam) near Gombong and Kebumen in the Kebumen administrative district of the same name in south-central Java ( Indonesia ) broke on November 29, 1967 during its construction, shortly before completion; 160 to 200 people died in the tidal wave . (The date of the disaster is sometimes given as November 27 or 30, 1967, and the year as 1966 or 1970.)

The Steinschütt dam was between 54 and 60 m high, 220 (350?) M long and had a structure volume of 1.2 to 1.579 million m³. The storage space was 52 million m³. The dam was intended to irrigate 16,000  hectares of agricultural land and also generate electricity from hydropower .

The disaster happened as a result of flooding during high water and subsequent structural failure.

The dam continued to be built after the disaster and was completed in 1978.
