Sendim (in Mirandés : Sendin ) is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) Miranda do Douro , in north-eastern Portugal .
geography
The place has retained a medieval charm with its characteristic granite stone buildings. Sendim is located on the Trás-os-Montes plateau, in the rugged natural landscape of the Parque Natural do Douro Internacional , the nature reserve of the international zone of the Douro .
administration
Sendim is a vila and the seat of the municipality of the same name (Freguesia). It also includes the surrounding towns of Aldeia, Paço, Percota, Guedieiros, Bouções, Corte Nova and Cabris. The country estates ("Quintas") of Cristelo, Bom Jardim, S. Martinho, Ribeira, Sobral, Fábrica, Carvalha, Cabrida, Valbom, Telheiros, Casal and the Quinta do Rio Távora also belong to the municipality.
Culture and sights
Every year the Festival Intercéltico de Sendim is an international folk festival with music of Celtic roots and accompanying cultural and gastronomic offers.
Roman excavation sites can be visited in Sendim. Various mansions, rock formations, churches and chapels are also worth seeing in the community.
Motocross and other rallies of various types are often held in the municipality .
The community organizes various, smaller literature, gastronomy, music and sporting events. Occasionally bullfights are organized here, in the absence of a bullring they take place on the local football field.
traffic
Sendim is integrated into the national intercity bus network of Rede Expressos . The place is 15 km away from the county seat of Miranda do Douro via the national road 221.
Since the closure of the Linha do Sabor in 1988, the place has no railway connection.
