Life

Senta Söneland (née Werder) was born in 1882 as the daughter of a Prussian officer. She attended a secondary school for girls and then a teacher training seminar , but also took training courses at the Berlin Schiller Theater . In 1910 she got her first engagement at the Meiningen court theater .

In 1912 she returned to Berlin and in the following years appeared on various stages such as the Komödienhaus, the Theater am Kurfürstendamm and the Metropol Theater . When theater life was severely impaired at the beginning of the war in 1914, she, like many other actors of the time, sought her chance in film.

Söneland was best known as a comedian in film comedies . After a long period of abstinence from the screen in the 1920s, with the beginning of the sound film age after 1930 , she had many assignments as a supporting actress. She also participated in entertainment evenings on the radio . She could be heard on the program Kunterbunt with the Berliner Funk-Kapelle.

One of her speeches at an election rally in 1919

The artist was politically committed to women's suffrage , and her fiery speech on January 19, 1919 at the Berlin Zoo station on the occasion of the election to the National Assembly will be remembered .

After the sudden death of her husband, Söneland said goodbye to the stage in 1934 and took his own life a little later.

She was buried in the Wilmersdorf cemetery in Berlin.
