Sentenhof
The Sentenhof is a dairy and arable farm in Boswil in the canton of Aargau . With an area of 112 hectares, it is the largest private agricultural operation in Aargau and one of the largest in Switzerland . It is located south of the village on the eastern slope of the Lindenberg at an altitude of 440 to 600 m above sea level. M. The Sentenhof emerged from an estate belonging to the Muri monastery . Two buildings are listed, the former cheese dairy (1540) and the manor house (1759).
history
The monastery Muri , a company incorporated in the year 1027 Benedictine Abbey , owned accordance with the Acta Murensia before 1160 rights to pastures in Gersau and Nidwalden ensure the supply of meat and dairy products. There were also three small Schweighöfe in Muri . By the 14th century, the goods in central Switzerland were lost, while agriculture prevailed on the local goods. Between 1426 and 1483 the abbey acquired a large part of the goods and rights in neighboring Boswil and formed a closed complex on the Boswiler Allmend . The Sentenhof, which was built there, was first mentioned in a document in 1502.
The Sentenhof was an independent operation of the abbey. It was run by a master dairy and was limited to the dairy industry. As early as 1528 he had 33 dairy cows and 3 bulls. Most of the proceeds were consumed by the convent and servants, the rest was sold on the market. In 1771 the abbey issued the Sentenhof as a fiefdom , but from 1780 onwards again employed a master senner. After the abolition of the monastery in 1841, a joint stock company took over. In 1846 the Sentenhof was sold to the Ineichen family, who still run it today. Shortly after the sale, the family started growing grain . The dairy was given up in 1912 for economic reasons. Since 2001 the Sentenhof has been run according to the criteria of organic agriculture .
building
Of the 15 residential and farm buildings of Sentenhofes two are of particular importance. The center of the group of buildings is the manor house built in 1759 on behalf of the Muri monastery. This is a three-storey wall construction under a bent, slightly protruding Gerschild roof. The facade has axially placed single windows and oval ventilation openings in the gable field . On the eaves side is the sandstone entrance portal with a pressed round arch and keystone . What remains of the historical furnishings is a stucco ceiling on the second floor and individual pieces of furniture. In front of the house is a well made in 1784 with a hexagonal trough. The former cheese dairy building erected in 1540 is the oldest part of the Sentenhof that has been preserved. The elongated single-storey wall structure has an extensive vaulted cellar . In 1860 the building was lengthened and given a hipped roof.
