The Río Sequillo (or Rioseco ) is an approximately 123 km long eastern tributary of the Río Valderaduey in the northern Spanish region of Castile and León . Medieval names of the river were Rivulo Sicco , Rivo Sico or Torrente Sicca .
course
The Río Sequillo arises from several source streams south of the Montes de León near Riosequillo about 10 km northeast of Sahagún . It then runs steadily in a southerly and later westerly direction, flowing through large areas of the Tierra de Campos region in the Castilian plateau and finally flowing into the Río Valderaduey about 3 km south of the town of Cañizo .
Tributaries
Numerous streams flow into the Río Sequillo; the only notable tributary is the Río Anguijón . The Río Sequillo is crossed and accompanied in sections by the western arm ( Ramal de Campos ) of the Canal de Castilla , whose water partly supplies the river.
Water flow
The river, which was straightened over long stretches in the 19th century, carries water almost all year round, despite its name (“small dry river”); Parts of its shore zones are swampy. It can overflow its banks after heavy or prolonged rainfall.
