Sergei Nikolayevich Pimenov
Sergei Nikolajewitsch Pimenow , later known as Serge Piménoff ( Russian Сергей Николаевич Пименов ; * October 5, 1895 in Yalta , Russian Empire , today Ukraine ; † May 21, 1960 in Boulogne-Billancourt , France ) was a Russian film architect who focused on his work 1923 in French film.
Life
Piménoff was born in Yalta in the Crimea . He received training in sculpture and painting in his Russian homeland . As a result of the October Revolution, he moved to France in 1923. During the 1920s, Pimenoff was able to find work as a subordinate production designer in film ( Abel Gances Napoleon ). With the dawn of the sound film age, Serge Pimenoff began his work as chief architect, his first significant work in 1931 was the Franco-German historical material The Duke of Reichstadt .
In the three decades that followed, up to his death in May 1960, Pimenow designed mainly the decorations for melodramas, exotic film material and adventure stories. Until 1945, Pimenoff worked with a number of well-known directors, including Julien Duvivier , GW Pabst , Carmine Gallone , Paul Fejos and Marc Allégret . Several times he also designed the sets for films by other Russian exiled directors such as Viktor Tourjansky , Wladimir Strijewski and Anatole Litvak .
After the war, Serge Piménoff oversaw a large number of pure entertainment productions, including several equipment films by directors Jean Delannoy and Jean-Paul Le Chanois . Foreign directors shooting in France also used Pimenoff's skills several times, including Preston Sturges , Mitchell Leisen and most recently Helmut Käutner for Die Gans von Sedan . It was Pimenoff's last film. Serge Pimenoff died while working on a new film at the Studios de Boulogne.
