Sergio Ariel Escudero ( Japanese エ ス ク デ ロ
Escudero is also an Argentinian and Spanish citizen .
Career
society
Born in Spain, Escudero lived in Japan from 1991 to 1996, where his father Sergio Escudero was a football legionary. After the end of his career and the associated return of the family to Argentina, he joined the youth team of Vélez Sarsfield in 1996 .
In 2001 the family moved back to Japan, where Escudero initially stayed for a year in the youth of Kashiwa Reysol and from 2003 moved to his father's former club, the Urawa Red Diamonds . There he developed rapidly and soon had the reputation of being a great talent.
At the age of 16 he made his debut on May 16, 2005 in the game against Albirex Niigata in the professional team of the Reds . As a result, he came in his first season to a total of five season games without scoring. In 2006 Sergio Escudero was voted the best player of the tournament at the DaimlerChrysler Junior Cup . Contrary to expectations, he did not make the breakthrough in the two following seasons and only played one season each. Escudero was accused of having a poor professional attitude at the time, which was underlined by his apparently overweight at times.
It was only in 2008 under coach Gert Engels that he found his way back into the professional team and at the end of the season he became a regular under the new coach Volker Finke . In August 2009 he involuntarily became a key figure in a discussion on the subject of "fair play" that was inflated by the media.
After a negative run of six defeats, he did not fall in the game against Sanfrecce Hiroshima despite a clear foul on him in the penalty area, but continued to play. Urawa received no penalty and lost the game with 1: 2. After the game, the media reported that Volker Finke had criticized his player for not having dropped himself after physical contact in the penalty area in order to get a penalty. A wave of outrage followed, which ended in an official broadcast by the Japanese Football Association accusing Finke of “grossly unsporting behavior” . The report went halfway around the world before it was put into perspective by the President of the Reds , Mitsuo Hashimoto, who denied such an approach by the coach. Finke survived the alleged incident without consequences, Escudero played the season as a regular player to the end.
In July 2012 Escudero was awarded to the South Korean first division club FC Seoul until the end of the 2012 season. This then drew the purchase option and committed Escudero to January 1, 2013.
National team
In 2005 he received a call-up to a training camp for the Argentine U-15 national team. After that he was not appointed to any youth team in his actual home country.
On June 11, 2007, he received Japanese citizenship analogous to his father's naturalization. He was actually intended for the squad of the Japanese for the Junior World Cup in Canada in 2007 , but this failed because of the entry deadline for the tournament, for which he did not yet hold the Japanese citizenship.
In 2008 he finally made his debut in the Japanese U-23 selection during the international tournament in Toulon , in the course of which he scored a goal.
