The Serranía de Callejas is a system of ridges in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The Serranía de Callejas is one of the Bolivian Voranden chains and lies west of the Serranía del Imajana between the Río San Mateo and the Río Espíritu Santo , the two headwaters of the Río Chapare . It extends in a northeast-southwest direction in the municipality of Villa Tunari in the province of Chapare in the department of Cochabamba . The ridge is bounded to the north and northwest by the Río Espíritu Santo and to the southeast by the Río San Mateo. The total length of the ridge is around thirty kilometers and its width is up to ten kilometers. The highest point is the Bejuco ( 3072  m ) in the central part of the Serranía de Callejas.

geography

The Serranía de Callejas follows the folding direction of the Andes high mountains without reaching the absolute height of the central Andean regions. From the Serranía de Callejas a number of smaller rivers drains to the Río Espíritu Santo and the Río San Mateo, such as the Río Huayruruny and the Río Avispas. The mountain range together with the Serranía del Imajana and the Serranía de Iniricarsama and parts of the Serranía Racete to the east has been protected as the Carrasco National Park ( Parque Nacional Carrasco ) since 1991 .

Development

The Serranía del Imajana is almost uninhabited and has only a few unpaved roads, the diverse flora and fauna of the semi-humid subtropical mountain forests are still little developed by tourism.
