The Seute Deern (Low German for "Sweet Girl") is a German seaside resort ship that was built in 1961 by the Rheinstahl-Nordseewerke shipyard in Emden under construction number 335 for the "Partenreederei Baunummer 335", a cooperation between the shipping company Cassen Eils , Cuxhaven, and the port -Dampfschiffahrt AG , Hamburg (HADAG), was built for use in Heligoland and excursion traffic. From 2003 to 2014 the ship was in the port of Hamburg-Harburg . It has been in Hamburg's HafenCity since September 2014.

history

After delivery, the shipping company used the ship in the summer season from various East Frisian islands for excursions - mostly to Helgoland - as well as for reinforcement on the Cuxhaven  - Helgoland route . In the first few years of the winter months, the ship was repeatedly chartered out to Stena Line, which used it on the Skagen route. When the first Atlantis was sold after the Fair Lady was put into service in 1970 , which had previously operated on the Büsum  - Helgoland route in the summer half-year and from Cuxhaven to Helgoland in the winter half-year, Seute Deern took over the winter service from Cuxhaven to Helgoland.

After the shipping company Cassen Eils was in direct competition with the shipping company Norden-Frisia for a long time with regard to excursion traffic from the East Frisian Islands to Helgoland, the two shipping companies began a cooperation in this area under the brand "Cassen Tours" in the mid-1970s . From then on, traffic from Norderney , Langeoog and Spiekeroog to Helgoland was carried out under the flag of the Cassen Eils shipping company , but with the Frisia III, owned by the Norden-Frisia shipping company, alone. For this purpose, this ship has been lengthened and increased. The Seute Deern then made butter trips on the Baltic Sea in the summer half of the year and was therefore also extended in 1979 from 57.47 to 63.91 meters and added another saloon on the second deck. As part of this renovation, it was also given a large self-service supermarket for duty-free sales on the intermediate deck.

In 1984 the Förde shipping company Seetouristik took over the summer traffic between Cuxhaven and Helgoland from HADAG. In this context, there were some changes in the use of ships on different routes during the butter trips. The Seute lass made from then on in the summer months for the rest of the 1980s, eight hours from Cuxhaven trips around Helgoland (without shore leave, with duty-free sales on board) and changed in the early 1990s in the Baltic Sea after Eckernförde , where she again for butter rides on between Eckernförde and Sønderborg . With the expiry of the duty-free regulations in 1999, however, this route was no longer available.

Until 2003, the ship was still regularly used in winter traffic between Cuxhaven and Heligoland and was highly valued by the Heligoland due to its high seaworthiness. In 2003 the Seute Deern was taken out of Helgoland traffic by Germanischer Lloyd due to upcoming “class work” and chartered to the Hamburg-Harburg entrepreneur, initiator and chairman of the “channel hamburg eV”, Arne Weber. Since then, traffic from Cuxhaven to Helgoland has been maintained with the Funny Girl in winter .

From then until September 2014, the Seute Deern lay in the western station canal of the port of Hamburg-Harburg and was then moved to a berth in the traditional ship port at Sandtorkai in Hamburg's Hafencity. It is used for conferences and events, but also for guest trips. The "Förderverein Seute Deern eV", founded on April 15, 2003, takes care of the ship.
