Severed - Forest of the Dead (In German: "Abgetrennt - Forest of Death") is a zombie film from 2005.
action
An international corporation runs two logging camps and a secret research group on a remote island. There are also demonstrators who protest against the clearing of the forest. The researchers are trying to develop a growth accelerator so that the trees grow faster. To do this, they are testing their preparation on some trees. When the woodcutter Eric saws up a tree trunk that had previously been manipulated by a demonstrator, he injured himself with his chainsaw. The researchers' drug enters his blood through the wound and he turns into a zombie.
After the company has not heard from its employees for days, the boss sends his son Tyler out to check the situation. When Tyler lands on the island in a glider, he drives a jeep to one of the logging camps. At first he does not find anyone, but is then surprised by some walking undead. He runs into the forest to escape the zombies, but is attacked by one. The lumberjack Luke saves him and leads him to the hideout of the survivors. Carter, a researcher for the corporation, is afraid that the new one is infected and doesn't want to let them in. As a result of the argument, Mac, the boss of the lumberjack camp, wakes up and lets them both into the hiding place.
Rita, the leader of the demonstrators, and Stacey, another demonstrator, are also there. Together they think about what to do. Tyler suggests that they go to the jeep and take it to escape. The suggestion is accepted and the group makes their way through the forest to the jeep. They meet two demonstrators who had chained themselves to the trees in protest, but can only save Greg, Rita's friend. You make it to the jeep in time and can escape the zombies lurking there.
A sample of the growth accelerator is examined in one of the Group's research laboratories, and a researcher becomes infected with the preparation through a cut. As a result, the CEO finds out what happened on the island and has the entire area cordoned off to prevent a scandal. In the meantime the group has arrived at the exit of the area, which is now locked and secured with barbed wire. Mac knows another way and so they turn around and drive back.
Tyler knocks over a zombie and the car is stuck on a mud hill. Mac wants to lead the group to the sawmill, where there is a radio to call for help. On the way to the mill, Luke is attacked by some zombies and yells for help. Carter, who is nearby and sees Luke, is scared and takes refuge in the mill. Mac tries to get help on the radio but fails to reach anyone. In the meantime, Stacey mutates into a zombie and is killed by Carter. Greg also transforms and is killed by Mac with a chainsaw.
The remaining four decide to continue on the path and, with some difficulty, find their way to the second logging camp. There they are taken in by the local leader Arnold, who rules his people with brute force. An ever deeper love relationship develops between Tyler and Rita, so that they sleep together and Tyler swears to her that he will protect her from all harm. Rita wants to leave as soon as possible because she is the only woman among men.
Arnold holds a game every day in which one of his people has to go into a cage and shoot a certain number of zombies with a shotgun. This time it is the fearful Carter's turn, but he misses his goals. Arnold then shoots the zombies. Ramon, a sensitive man from the camp, begins to preach about God and Arnold commands him to stop. When he does not obey the order, the camp chief shoots him in cold blood.
The following night Carter flees, leaving the gate open through which the zombies can enter the camp. Mac and the others wake up to the weird noises. Mac dies shortly afterwards in a fight with one of the undead. Tyler and Rita manage to escape. When Tyler hears calls for help from Carter, he rushes to him without listening to Rita's pleading and pleading. Carter and Tyler are mangled by the zombies. Rita manages to get out on the street and runs into the dark.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the production was a “tough horror film that strives to create a coherent and threatening atmosphere” , but that it is not able to gain “any new facets ” from the subgenre .
