Severin Schwan (born November 17, 1967 in Hall in Tirol ) is a manager . He has been CEO of the Roche Group since 2008 .

Life

Schwan studied economics at the Universities of Innsbruck , York and Oxford as well as law at the University of Innsbruck. He completed both subjects in 1991 with a master's degree and earned the title Mag. Iur. and Mag. rer. soc. oec. Since 1993, the year of his graduation to Dr. jur. , he held various international positions within the Roche Group.

Schwan was appointed managing director of the Swiss pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche at the Roche general assembly on March 4, 2008 . He replaced Franz B. Humer . Schwan was previously Managing Director of Roche's Diagnostics division. He has been a Board Member of Roche Holding AG since 2013 . He has been a member of the Board of Directors at Credit Suisse since 2014 and its Vice Chairman since 2017.

He has been a member of the International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai (IBLAC) since 2013 and Vice President of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) since 2016.

According to calculations by Willis Towers Watson , Schwan was the highest-paid CEO in Europe in 2017 with an annual salary of around EUR 12.9 million.

Schwan is married and has three children. He is a citizen of Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
