Severn River is a river in Simcoe County and Muskoka District Municipality of the Canadian province of Ontario .

He pictures the runoff of Lake Couchiching and the Lake Simcoe connected to it . He leaves Lake Couchiching at its northern end near Washago . From there it flows a short distance north. It flows through Sparrow Lake . Then it turns northwest and flows to Georgian Bay and Lake Huron .

The river is part of the Trent-Severn waterway , which connects Georgian Bay on Lake Huron with the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario .

Hydropower plants

The Swift Rapids hydropower plant is located on the lower reaches of the Severn River. It has 3 turbines with a total output of 8.1 MW. It was built in 1913–1917. The operator is Orillia Power Generation Corporation .

A few kilometers downstream is the Big Chute hydropower station, immediately east of the Gloucester Pool . It was built between 1909 and 1919 and has 4 turbines with a total output of 10 MW. It is operated by Ontario Power Generation .
