Shackles was an Australian thrash and death metal band from Sydney that was formed in 2000 and split up in 2009.
history
The band was founded in 2000 and initially consisted of bassist Rainer Wischnewski, singer Ian Belshaw, guitarist Loony and drummer Matt. In the following three years the line-up changed significantly: Wischnewski left the band and the post of drummer changed several times. As a result, the band was hardly able to make recordings or hold real concerts. After a semi-stable cast had been found, performances were held in Sydney. Only in mid-2004 was there a real permanent cast. Ian had meanwhile also taken over the bass, the drums occupied Joss Šeparović and the electric guitars were played by Dario Lastro and Matt Alfieri. This was followed by performances all over Australia, with concerts in Melbourne , Brisbane , Canberra , Hobart and Bendigo, among others . The group performed together with Toxic Holocaust, among others . The group also published various demos . Although they had enough songs for an album, the band waited to work on it, as they first tried to increase their popularity. Through the Demo Orgy of Corpses in 2005, the Beer in Your Ear Records label became aware of the band, about which the Demo Coup de Grace appeared in 2006 . The demo consists of both studio and live recordings. The following year they performed in Sydney together with Denial of God and the Japanese band Defiled . Towards the end of the year, the single Inquisitor's Curse was released . Also in 2008 further performances were held, including in December together with Grave . In 2009 the debut album Traitors' Gate was released via Hells Headbangers Records . In the same year the band broke up. In their career, the group performed with Diocletian , Gospel of the Horns , Destruktor , StarGazer , Grenade , Atomizer , Misery and Nocturnal Graves, among others .
style
In his review of Traitors' Gate , Michel Renaud of metalcrypt.com wrote that the band mixed Thrash with Death and a little Black Metal , which made him remember Deströyer 666 , Destruktor and Razor of Occam . Above all, the vocals resemble that of Deströyer 666. Shackles, however, is a bit quieter and a bit more "party-like". The speed of the songs moves between the medium and high speed range.
