The band was founded by Hellbutcher and Mark Howitzer and originally consisted of Shane Transvaal D (vocals), Hellbutcher (guitar) and Howitzer (drums). At the end of 1994 the demo The Satanist's Dream was released on the Italian label Einstand Records.

In 1995 the band broke up. Founding member Mark Howitzer moved to Melbourne , where he played drums with the band Deströyer 666 , on whose album Unchain the Wolves he can be heard. Shortly afterwards, he also played on the album Through the Looking Glass by Raven's Wing, founded by members of the RAC band Fortress. At this time he was looking for suitable members for the re-establishment of Gospel of the Horns; in June 1997 he reformed the band with the new guitarist Ryan Marauder. Meanwhile, Hellbutcher had joined the NSBM band Spear of Longinus under the pseudonym "SS Death Dealer" .

In May 1998 Sinner 's second demo was recorded and a contract was signed with the Dutch label Damnation Records. In November, the EP Monuments of Impurity, limited to 300 copies, was released by Morbid Productions. The band was unsatisfied with the mix of the EP, however, and according to Howitzer, drinking all weekend and then going to the studio wasn't a good idea. Shortly thereafter, Hellcunt of Bestial Warlust became the drummer for Gospel of the Horns.

In July and August 2000, after the release of the mini-LP Eve of the Conqueror , the band toured Europe, where they performed with Pentacle , Enthroned , Primordial , Adorior and Arkhon Infaustus , among others . After the tour, the band took on Chris Masochist as second guitarist and in September 2001 the first album A Call to Arms , which was released in Ireland by Invictus Productions.

In May 2003 the band toured Europe again, this time with In Aeternum and Razor of Occam , and played several concerts in Australia. In June 2005 Marauder got out and founded his own band Funerary Pit. After touring Australia with Dismember , the band recorded Trench Hell guitarist Hexx in early 2006. In January 2007 Marauder returned to the band, shortly afterwards the album Realm of the Damned was released.

The band has since moved to Germany: Chris Masochist moved in September 2010, Howitzer followed him in early 2012. Then Mersus (Deströyer 666, Zarathustra ) and Matt Razor joined them.

Music genre

When the band was founded, they referred to the 1980s bands Sodom , Bathory , Kreator , Celtic Frost , Slaughter and Razor as well as the contemporary Beherit and Blasphemy . Costa Stoios from Tales of the Macabre looks at Sinners influences of Celtic Frost and probably Deströyer 666 and comparable Australian bands. According to Howitzer, the difference between Deströyer 666 and Gospel of the Horns lies in War Metal influences in Deströyer 666 in contrast to a more thrash-heavy influence from old Black Metal in Gospel of the Horns. For him, the similarities between the two bands end with the "same rawness and passion". Howitzer describes Thrash Metal typical of Australia as “[t] he mixture of real old-school Black Metal and a [sic!] Very raw [sic!] Kind of Thrash. Of course you can find influences of old Celtic Frost, Bathory, Venom and Sodom - but also your own elements. ”Independence is important for the musicians.

Texts and ideology

Howitzer is a fan of the lyrics by Pete Helmkamp ( Order from Chaos , Angelcorpse ). The lyrics of Gospel of the Horns are directed against Jews and Christianity , which Howitzer regards as insane, and contain social Darwinist and satanist positions; the band described themselves on their MySpace page as the "musical embodiment" of Niccolò Machiavelli , Ayn Rand , Anton Szandor LaVey and Robert Greene and as a fist against liberal doctrines. The band's musicians confessed to being patriots and spoke out against immigration .

"It almost feels like we Australians are losing our core traditional ideals and becoming engulfed by today's multi-culturalism and mass immigration."

Nevertheless, the band is usually not counted to the NSBM . The band itself expresses itself on their side "against all those who try to break the individual will and to stifle free thought and speech through their oppressive ideology, be it religious or political dogma, oppression or subjugation".
