Arkhon Infaustus is a French black and death metal band from Paris that was founded in 1997.

history

The band was founded in 1997 by guitarist and singer DK Deviant. The band name is made up of the Greek word “Arkhon” (“prince”) and the Latin word “Infaustus” (“evil”, “dark”, “sad”). A short time later, the bassist Guillaume "666 Torturer" Warren joined and the first EP In Sperma Infernum was released in 1998 via Mordgrimm Records with an edition of 666 copies. In 2000, Spikekult Records released a second EP under the name Dead Cunt Maniac . After the recordings of the debut album Hell Injection , which was released by Osmose Productions in 2001 , the line-up was expanded to include guitarist Damien "Toxik H." Guimard. The drummer Yov "Hellblaster" was initially replaced for live performances by the Canadian James Read from Revenge . Then they went on a European tour with Mortician before Jonathan “AZK.6” Boyer joined them as a permanent drummer. After the album Filth Catalyst in 2003, a split release followed shortly afterwards in a number of copies with the band Revenge. After the album was released, it went on tour with Vader and Deranged . In the summer of 2004, the next album entitled Perdition Insanabilis , which was recorded in the Swedish Berno Studio , was released, after which the group went on tour with Deicide in the winter . In April 2005 they went on tour through Europe with Belphegor , In Aeternum and Asmodeus . Another followed in early May 2007 with Unleashed and Belphegor. Due to the latter tour, the double EP Annunciation was released before the album Orthodoxyn followed at the end of the month . The recordings for this took place in the St. Marthe Studio in Paris. The album was released after a long delay and had to be recorded twice. In April and May 2008 they went on tour through Europe with Angelcorpse and Revenge. In 2009 the band took part in the Black Mass Ritual Festival in Lahti .

style

According to Joel McIver in his book Extreme Metal II , Arkhon Infaustus is a satanist band that straddles the line between black and death metal. In an interview with Allan “Enigma” from metalbite.com , Guillaume “666 Torturer” Warren stated that the band name paraphrases Satan . The fact that the name is made up of two different languages goes back to the Bible , in which God created different languages in order to divide the people. The members are avowed Satanists, trying to stay away from the usual black metal clichés, such as waging a pseudo-war against Christianity .

According to Martin Wickler from Metal Hammer , the group uses all of the genre-typical Black Metal clichés. In an interview with him, Warren stated that the group sees itself in the tradition of bands like Venom , Slayer and early Mayhem . Wickler found that Hell Injection was not comparable to the music, but it offered good black and death metal. The material is not original, but it is full of enthusiasm. In addition to Satanism, Warren considers sex, evil and violence to be important song themes. The group itself calls their music "Black Porn Art", whose greatest inspiration is sexual perversions that the members also live. Satanism is inseparable from sexual perversions. Robert Müller had reviewed Hell Injection an issue earlier . He described the music as an extreme mixture of black and death metal, with the lyrics and the stage shows being strongly influenced by the theme of "sex". From this description one could think that a comparison to Impaled Nazarene would make sense, but it is rather less imaginative Death Metal, which “clearly influenced by classic US bands, pimped up with a bit of Black Metal screeching , but without any great character of its own " be. In a later issue, Müller reviewed Filth Catalyst and stated that the album is more oriented towards classic Death Metal than the debut album. The songs are usually played quickly. A year later, Müller reviewed Perdition Insanabilis and concluded that the proportion of death metal had increased further. Characteristic among other things are the lower tuned guitars and brute riffs as well as the mostly high speed of the songs, which are occasionally interrupted by slower passages. The album is "a typical example of the post-boom period of Black Metal, in which, in addition to old school tendencies, the search for new crossover forms is increasingly gaining ground." The basis for the music are satanic as well as blasphemous- perverse themes, which are not uncommon for both genres. Florian Krapp, who also works at Metal Hammer , criticized Orthodoxyn 's song structures, which are unbalanced and arbitrary. The music is black metal with death metal quotes.

Edouard Vergriete from voicesfromthedarkside.de wrote in his review of Hell Injection that it was about topics such as satanism, sadism and drugs . The music is a mixture of black and death metal, without innovation and reminds of Abominators Damnations Prophecy or all of Bestial Warlust's releases .
