Abominator is an Australian thrash , black and death metal band from Melbourne that was formed in 1994.

history

The band was formed in 1994 by singer and drummer Chris "Volcano" Broadway, previously with Deströyer 666 , and guitarist and bassist Andrew "Undertaker" Gillon. This was followed in May 1995 with Barbarian War Worship, a first demo that comprised six songs. In the same year, singer and guitarist Deathsaw Dave and bassist Gary Gestapo joined the band. The following year, bassist and singer Damon Bloodstorm joined the band. In 1997 bassist Gestapo left the band. Then the band began work on the second demo The Conqueror Possessed . Meanwhile, the recordings of the first demo were used for a split release in September with the Swedish band Mornaland. After guitarist and singer Deathsaw Dave had left the band and the band was just a trio, the group signed a contract with Necropolis Records , which in March 1999 released the debut album Damnation's Prophecy ; the included song Debauchery (The Sinner's Hammer) appeared in the same year on the compilation Thrashing Holocaust by Necropolis Records. Bloodstorm and Broadway were then heard as singers. Steve Culpitt, aka Steve Undinism, aka Haruko Yamashita, was represented as bass player. Bloodstorm had stopped playing bass in 1999 to focus more on vocals. Culpitt was supposed to leave the band after the second album was released. During the recording of this second album, the band separated from Necropolis Records and signed a contract with Osmose Productions , about which Subversives for Lucifer appeared. The vinyl version of the album also contained the song Urge to Retaliate as a bonus. At the beginning of 2001, Max Krieg joined the band as the new singer. With this new line-up, the band was heard for the first time on the DVD World Domination by Osmose Productions. To promote the album, the band also held a few gigs, with Mick Warmonger as the bassist. In September 2002 the band played with Mayhem in Australia before Valak Exhumer joined the band as the new bass player. In June the band played with Incantation . In early August the band played with NunSlaughter in Adelaide . In the same month there were also appearances with Sphagnum, Vaginal Carnage and Fuck… I'm Dead . This was followed by the recordings of the third album, Nuctemeron Descent , and in October a concert with Deströyer 666, Gospel of the Horns and Hobbs' Angel of Death . The album was released in December 2003, with the vinyl version of the album being limited to 500 copies. In July 2004, singer Max Krieg left the band, which Abominator could not take part in the Bloodfest in Sydney . In early 2005 the band signed a contract with Displeased Records . The group then went to Jam Tin Studios to record the next album, with the cast consisting of singer and guitarist Andrew Undertaker, bassist Valak Exhumer and drummer and singer Chris Broadway. The album was released in May 2006 under the name The Eternal Conflagration . A limited vinyl version was also released on Death Rune Records .

style

According to Martin Wickler from Metal Hammer , the band played a mixture of Thrash and Death Metal on Damnations Prophecy . Blastbeats , guttural singing and fast-playing electric guitars were characteristic here. Fast-playing instruments and deep, guttural vocals were also characteristic of Subversives for Lucifer, according to Stefan Müller from Metal Hammer and described the music as a mixture of black and death metal. According to Martin Wickler, the band also played fast and aggressive metal on Nuctemeron Descent , although the music was not very varied. The music on Nuctemeron Descent is referred to as "War Metal" by many bands from Australia. Andrew Undertaker thought this term was not very appropriate, as this was more true for bands like Bestial Warlust . The band initially referred to their music as "Carnage Metal", whereas they now refer to it as "Black Death".
