Shaheen Dill-Riaz

Shaheen Dill-Riaz ( Bengali শাহীন দিল-রিয়াজ Śāhīn Dil-Riẏāj ; born February 12, 1969 in Dhaka ) is a German - Bangladeshi journalist , cameraman , author and director . He has lived in Berlin since 1992 .

Life

Shaheen Dill-Riaz went to school in Noakhali and Dhaka and attended the college of a military boarding school in Comilla . He was involved in the organization of the International Short Film Festival in Dhaka and worked as a film journalist in Bangladesh. From 1989 to 1991 he learned German at the Goethe Institute in Dhaka and came to Germany in 1992 for a two-month language course on a scholarship from the Berlin Goethe Institute. He then studied art history, Indian art history and theater studies at the Free University of Berlin . From 1995 onwards he completed a camera degree at the HFF Konrad Wolf in Potsdam-Babelsberg. His graduation film Sand and Water, about life on sandbank islands in the Jamuna River , has already attracted a lot of attention and won several awards. He also shot his other documentary films in his home country of Bangladesh. In 2010 he received a Grimme Prize for his documentation Eisenfresser about ship dismantling near Chittagong . In the same year, the film Korankinder won him the audience award of the Duisburg Film Week . In 2010 Dill-Riaz was a Fellow at the Cultural Studies College of the University of Konstanz in the Cluster of Excellence “Cultural Foundations of Integration”. In 2011 and 2012 he had lectureships at the Ruhr University in Bochum and at the University of Konstanz.
