A. Sharath Kamal ( Achanta Sharath Kamal ; Telugu ఆచంట శరత్ కమల్ ; born July 12, 1982 in Machilipatnam , Andhra Pradesh ) is a professional Indian table tennis player .
Career
He won the men's singles at the 16th Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2004. He also won the US Open in July 2010 and several other international tournaments.
After playing for a while in the Spanish league at San Sebastian, he joined the German table tennis Bundesliga for TSV Graefelfing in the 2010/2011 season . In March 2011 he moved to the Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen , which he left in 2012 for Italy for the first division club Siracusa. However, since this broke up and Sharath Kamal could not join a new club because of the expired changeover period, he kept fit as a clubless person at the DTTZ training center in Düsseldorf. In 2013, Borussia Düsseldorf signed him for a year to replace the long-term injured Christian Süß and won the German championship and cup several times with the team. His contract with Düsseldorf was extended to 2017. For the 2017/18 season he moved to TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt ; for the 2018/19 season he is returning to Düsseldorf. In 2019 he was Indian champion in singles for the ninth time.
Sharath Kamal was awarded the Arjuna Award in the table tennis division for 2004.
Private
Sharath Kamal is married and has one child (* 2011).
