Shaul Black

Shaul Schwarz (* 1974 in Israel ) is an Israeli photojournalist and documentary filmmaker . He has lived in New York City since 1999 and has received several international awards for his photographic documentation.

Life

Shaul Schwarz was born in Israel in 1974 and began his career as a photographer with the Israeli Air Force, after which he worked as a photojournalist in Israel. In 1999 he moved to New York City, where he works as a freelance photographer for the agency Reportage by Getty Images. Images of Schwarz have appeared in a variety of media, including National Geographic Magazine , The New York Times Magazine, and Time .

In 2004, Schwarz received the World Press Photo Award twice for his report on the conflict similar to civil war at the end of Jean-Bertrand Aristide's tenure in Haiti . In 2005 he received the Visa d'Or for his photo documentation about the Gaza Strip . Further awards include several honors as Picture of the Year and in 2009 the Robert Capa Gold Medal Award of the Overseas Press Club, dedicated to the photographer Robert Capa , for his documentation of the violence after the 2007 presidential election in Kenya . In early 2010, Shaul Schwarz documented the consequences of the 2010 Haiti earthquake for Time and other media. In the photo series Narco Culture he published pictures of the violent acts of the Mexican drug cartels in the city of Ciudad Juárez , which were also used in the publication Pictures for the Freedom of the Press 2010 published by the organization Reporters Without Borders .
