Shavon Shields (born June 5,  1994 in Overland Park ) is an American - Danish basketball player .

career

Shields is the son of former American football professional Will Shields and a Danish mother who went to study at the University of Nebraska in the United States, where she met her future husband. He played basketball at Olathe Northwest High School in the US state of Kansas . For a time he was there team-mate of Willie Cauley-Stein , who lived as a guest son with the Shields family.

From 2012 to 2016 he graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in biology and played for the college's basketball team. He played 121 games for Nebraska and came up with averages of 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He achieved his best point values ​​in 2015/16 with 16.8 per game. With a total of 1630 points, Shields was shared fifth on the university team's all-time basketball list when he left it in 2016.

Shield's first stop as a professional basketball player was the basketball Bundesliga in Germany . He was under contract with the Skyliners Frankfurt in the 2016/17 season . With 14.0 points per encounter he was the second best scorer in Frankfurt this season and with 5.3 rebounds per use, he was also the second best rebounder within the team. In April 2017, the Frankfurt Shields initially loaned it to the Italian first division club Dolomiti Energia Trentino before the winger was signed by the Italians for the 2017/18 season. In the main round of the 2017/18 season he got 13.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, in the play-offs he increased to 16.8 points and 3.9 rebounds. During the summer break of 2018, Shields signed a contract with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz from the Spanish ACB league . With that he made the leap into the EuroLeague . In 2019 he became Spanish runner-up with the team and champion in 2020. In both game years he scored around 11 points per game. In July 2020 he moved to Olimpia Milan .

National team

Shields, who says he speaks little Danish but understands the language well, was a member of Denmark's U20 national team and won the Nordic championship with it. He was later appointed to the men's national team.
