The SheevaPlug is one of the first " plug computers " to be brought to market . It was developed by the California-based company Globalscale Technologies. It has a 1.2 GHz Marvell Kirkwood 6281 ARM -compatible CPU (aka Feroceon).

The SheevaPlug is delivered with the Ubuntu 9.04 ARM build preinstalled . The SheevaPlug is supported from Linux kernel version 2.6.27 and is shipped with 2.6.30-rc5. Marvell is providing a software development kit for this platform to promote software development . This collection contains the GCC cross-compiler for ARM. The device has a mini-USB connection to the FTDI FT2232 chip . This grants the developer access to the JTAG port connected to the JTAG bus as well as an RS232 interface that is connected to the serial port of the Kirkwood processor and through which the bootstrap and kernel consoles can be accessed. This debug console can be accessed from any computer with support for the FTDI bus translator (including Linux , Mac OS X , Windows ).

The SheevaPlug has also been available in Germany since the first quarter of 2010.

From April 2010 Globalscale Technologies will start delivering the GuruPlug models equipped with additional performance features (including WLAN , HDMI ) .
