Shenzhou 9 ( Chinese  神舟 九号 ) was the ninth mission to test manned spacecraft in the Chinese space program . It was the longest Chinese space flight to date, and a Chinese space station was put into operation for the first time.

crew

The crew was announced on June 14, 2012:

Nie Haisheng , Zhang Xiaoguang and Wang Yaping were selected as reserve teams , who then came to Shenzhou 10 a year later .

Mission description

The launch took place on June 16, 2012 at 10:37:24 UTC . On June 18, Shenzhou 9 became the first Chinese spacecraft to carry out a manned automatic coupling maneuver in space . For this purpose, Shenzhou 9 carried a coupling adapter based on the Russian APAS system . The coupling target was the Chinese space station Tiangong 1 , which has been in orbit since September 29, 2011. Three hours after the docking maneuver, Jing Haipeng, Liu Wang and Liu Yang were the first Chinese Taikonauts to enter the room laboratory.

The crew's task was to put the space laboratory into operation and to research the necessary requirements for the operation of space stations . In addition, medical experiments were carried out to research the long-term stays of station crews in space.

On June 24, 2012, the crew returned to the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft and disconnected from Tiangong 1 to perform a manual docking maneuver. For this purpose, the spaceship moved away to a distance of 400 m and then approached the space station again. Liu Wang took over manual control at a distance of 140 m and reconnected at 04:48 UTC.

The crew left the space station on June 27 at around 22:00 UTC and closed the hatch at 22:27 UTC. The decoupling took place on June 28th at 01:22 UTC. The brake ignition took place the following day at 01:18 UTC after the orbital module had been ejected. The landing took place on June 29, 2012 at 02:01 UTC in the planned target area.
