Sherrill is a city in Oneida County , New York in the United States . In 2010 the City of Sherrill had 3,071 inhabitants, making it the smallest city in New York State by population. Sherrill is often referred to as The Silver City .
history
Sherrill was founded in 1916 by special law by the state government. The city is unique among New York City in that its statutes treat Sherrill like a village in many ways , and the Town of Vernon administration has retained jurisdiction over the territory of the city. All other cities in New York are completely independent of town administrations.

Sherill is at the western end of the Town of Vernon on New York State Route 5 . Sherrill geographical coordinates are 43 ° 4 ' N , 75 ° 36' W . The place borders on Madison County . According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 5.2 km², without any significant body of water.
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Sherrill lived in 3,147 people. The population density was 601.5 people per km ². There were 1309 housing units at an average of 250.2 per km ². The population Sherrills consisted of 98.00% of White , 0.22% Black or African American , 0.60% Native American , 0.60% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0.03% said other races to belong and 0.54% named two or more races. 0.83% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of Sherrill were distributed to 1262 households out of which 33.6% were living in children under 18 years of age. 59.3% of households were married, 8.1% had a female head of household without a husband, and 30.3% were not families. 27.4% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 15.9% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.03.
The population was divided into 26.2% minors, 5.8% 18–24 year olds, 25.0% 25–44 year olds, 25.9% 45–64 year olds and 17.1% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 women there were 86.8 men. For every 100 women over the age of 18, there were 81.8 men.
