"A boring world in which the concept of lewd jokes does not exist"), or Shimoseka ( 下 .セ カ ) for short a dystopian , comedic light novel series by Hirotaka Akagi with illustrations by Eight Shimotsuki, which has been released since 2012 . In 2015, an anime adaptation was broadcast that is also available in German.

16 years ago the government of Japan enacted the "Public Order and Morality Health Education Act " ( 公 序 良 俗 健全 育成 法 , Kōjo ryōzoku kenzen ikusei hō ), which banned all sexual representation and expression. To enforce this, every citizen must wear a collar that automatically and immediately reports any violation to the moral police.

Tanukichi Okuma ( 奥 間 狸 吉 ) was previously at the most notorious middle school in Japan because of the many violations and is looking forward to his transfer to the model high school Tokioka Gakuen, as his crush Anna Nishikinomiya ( ア ン ナ ・ 錦 ノ 宮 ) is also there. She is the daughter of the chairman of the national parent council Sophia Nishikinomiya ( ソ フ ィ ア ・ 錦 ノ 宮 ) and the politician Matsukage Nishikinomiya ( 錦 ノ 宮 祠 影 ), both of whom have introduced the law and want to tighten it, as well as chairwoman of the student council and pleading him to join this. The reason for this is that the city-famous pervert Setsugen no Ao ( 雪原 の 青 , "the blue of the snowfield"), who for inexplicable reasons always manages to escape the customs police, is occasionally on the school grounds. Since Anna grew up sheltered, she cannot see the signs of indecent acts until it is too late and they have been carried out. She therefore campaigned for Okuma to be accepted into the school so that he could support the student council with his experience from his previous school.

Later, the deputy chairwoman Ayame Kajō ( 華 城 綾 女 ) asks him for a confidential conversation in which she identifies herself as Setsugen no Ao . She thinks that she has found a like-minded person in him, since Tanukichi's father was a well-known profanity "terrorist". When Tanukichi wants to call the police, she blackmailed him with saying that it would only negatively affect Anna to join her. He becomes an involuntary founding member of Ayame's "terrorist organization" SOX, which wants to make what they consider boring world more exciting through lewd jokes. Classmates Otome Saotome ( 早 乙 女 乙 女 ), Kosuri Onigashira ( 鬼頭 鼓 修理 ) and Yutori Nuregoromi ( 濡 衣 ゆ と り ) join in as further SOX members . In addition, the eccentric Hyōka Fuwa ( 不 破 氷 菓 ) is interested in Tanukichi, who wants to find out with him the secret of where babies come from.

The light novel is the debut work of the author Hirotaka Akagi. He submitted it in 2011 for the Shogakukan Light Novel Taishō young talent and was selected as one of the four winners from 829 submissions. He then received an offer from the Shogakukan publishing house to publish his work. Adaptations

Manga

The manga series Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai: Man ● -hen ( 下 ネ タ と い う 概念 が 存在 し な い 退 屈 な has been published in the manga magazine Comic Blade by Mag Garden since March 28, 2014 (issue 5/2014) 世界 マ ン ● 篇 ) to the novel, whereby Man ● -hen can be understood on the one hand as a "Manga version", on the other hand the blackening of the syllable is often used for the word manko , a slang term for vagina. The drawings are from the hentai mangaka Yuzuki N ' . So far (as of January 2016) the chapters have been summarized in three anthologies ( Tankōbon ).

Anime

In October 2014, an adaptation of the work as an anime television series was announced. The series is animated by Studio JCStaff , directed by Yōhei Suzuki, while Masahiro Fujii adapts the character design for the anime. The 12 episodes were broadcast on AT-X from July 4 to September 19, 2015 , as well as on Tokyo MX , KBS Kyōto , Chiba TV , TV Kanagawa , TV Saitama , Sun TV , TV Aichi and BS11 with an offset of up to three days . The series was also released on six Blu-rays / DVD between August 26, 2015 and January 27, 2016.

The series was licensed by Kazé Germany for the German-speaking area , which it called SHIMONETA - A Boring World Where the Concept of 'Dirty Jokes' Doesn't Exist or Shimoneta for short via the video portal Anime on Demand, also as a simulcast for Japanese broadcasting with German Stream subtitles. In North America, this is done through Funimation with English subtitles as Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist . Kazé released Shimoneta in Germany from July 29, 2016 to November 25, 2016 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The first volume was also released in a limited version with a slipcase.

The score is by Akiyuki Tateyama. The opening title B-Chiku Sentai SOX ( B 地区 戦 隊 SOX ) is sung by the voice actors under the name SOX and the ending title Inner Urge, composed and written by Yuki Matsuura, is sung by Sumire Uesaka .

reception

According to Joe Dempsey of the Anime News Network , the work is a response to the controversial 2010 revision of the Tokyo Prefecture's Youth Protection Ordinance , which provides for greater regulation of manga and anime with sexual content. Dempsey sees Shimoneta with his portrayal of book burnings, a repressive government that monitors everything, as well as protagonists who are optionally seen as freedom fighters or terrorists in the tradition of cyberpunk . Although some conclusions that Shimoneta draws regarding sex education are worthy of criticism, the protagonist, as is often the case with light novels, is rather boring and contains bizarre events, but is still the best recent example of a cyberpunk anime in the tradition of works in this genre from the 80s and 90s.
