Shunmugham Subramani (born August 5, 1972 in Singapore ) is a former Singaporean national soccer player. He was used as a defender. He is currently assistant coach for the Singapore national team .

Career

society

He started his career in 1992 with Tanjong Pagar United . With this team he was able to win both the Singapore Cup , which was held for the first time this year , and the Singapore FA Cup in 1998 . In the same year he was also voted Footballer of the Year in the S. League . The next season he signed with Home United . There he met his teammate in the national team, Aide Iskandar . He ended his career there in 2009 at the age of 37.

National team

He made his debut with the Singapore national team on June 27, 1996 in a 4-0 win over Myanmar in qualifying for the 1996 Asian Cup . At the Southeast Asian Games in Jakarta in 1997 , he was able to reach the semi-finals with the team. In 1998 he took part in the Southeast Asian Championship and was able to win this tournament with his team. Again the semifinals of the tournament could be reached at the Southeast Asian Games 1999 in Brunei . He could not achieve any success with his team at the Southeast Asian Cup in 2000 and 2002 , here the team did not get beyond the group stage. In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , every game in which it was used was lost. With only three points, the team finished last in the table. At the 2004 edition , he and his team won the title again.

He originally wanted to end his career in the national team in September 2004. However, the then coach Radojko Avramović convinced him to continue playing. He officially quit in 2007 after winning the Southeast Asian Championship . In June of the same year he was also appointed to the FIFA Hundreds Club .

Trainer

In 2005 he was assistant coach for the Singapore U-23 team. In May 2018 he was employed as an assistant coach alongside the then interim coach Fandi Ahmad .
