Shut Up + Dance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shut Up and Dance (stylized as "SHUT UP + DANCE") is a song by the American rock band Walk the Moon for their second studio album "Talking Is Hard" (2014). It was written by band members and songwriters Ben Berger and Ryan McMahon. The song is based on the experience of the singer Nicholas Petricca from a nightclub in Los Angeles. His girlfriend invited him to dance and inspired him to write the title. Petricca thought of the song as a hymn to let go of frustration and have fun. The song was released on September 10, 2014.

The song became the band's most successful hit single to date and reached number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Outside the United States, the song even reached the top of the charts in Poland, the top 10 in Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, Ireland and Great Britain, the top 20 in New Zealand and Sweden, and the top 30 in the Netherlands.
