biography

Sibylle Plogstedt studied social sciences in Berlin and was a member of the Socialist German Student Union (SDS) from 1965 to 1969 . In 1968 Plogstedt was in Prague for a seminar paper when Warsaw Pact troops marched in. She sought contact with left-wing Prague students, found Petr Uhl , who was in the process of founding the opposition group Hnutí revoluční mládeže (Movement of Revolutionary Youth). Together with Petr Uhl she was active in the opposition to the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops. Sibylle Plogstedt was 24 when she and the entire group were arrested in December 1969 by the State Security of Czechoslovakia. In 1971 she was sentenced to two and a half years in prison and after one and a half years expelled from the Czechoslovak Republic . Plogstedt wrote an autobiographical book in 2001 about her imprisonment in the ČSSR in 1969 and how she dealt with the trauma, her experiences from the Prague Spring , the actions of the West German left in 1968 and the current debate about how to deal with secret service files . Captured in Prague after 1968 , published by Christoph Links Verlag . The book was also published in the Czech Republic. 2001 has WDR the film alone in the cell broadcast to the Sibylle Plogstedt with Peter Sommer has turned.

After Plogstedt's return to West Berlin , she took part in the publication of the magazine Informační materiály , which was distributed underground in the ČSSR. She was active in student strikes and at times a member of the Trotskyist group International Marxists (GIM). Plogstedt was not allowed to enter the ČSSR for 20 years. In 1976, after two years of activity, she had to quit her work at the Eastern European Institute of the Free University of Berlin due to the radical decree. In Prague she was recognized as a political prisoner after the Velvet Revolution.

In 1976, Plogstedt founded the Berlin feminist women's magazine Courage together with Sabine Zurmühl and a group of women from the Berlin women's center. The newspaper, which became the mouthpiece of the autonomous women's movement, existed for eight years. After Courage went bankrupt in 1984, she went to Bonn to work for the SPD magazine Vorwärts in 1986 . She is one of the founders of the Association of Women Journalists and of Solwodi , the aid organization of Sr.  Lea Ackermann . In Bonn she was active on the board of the women's museum for many years.

When Vorwärts became a members' magazine in 1990 and almost the entire editorial staff was dismissed, she started her own business as a freelance journalist. Since then she has worked as a book author, freelance filmmaker and radio writer. Among other things, she published on the subject of sexual harassment at work (several books and guides from 1994) and on the history of women's projects and collectives: Women's businesses: From collective to individual entrepreneur (Ulrike Helmer Verlag).
