The Sickingen grammar school is the only grammar school in Landstuhl , Rhineland-Palatinate. It was named after Franz von Sickingen .

history

On October 6, 1873, the Latin school was founded in the town hall on the Alter Markt in Landstuhl . From 1913 to 1952 classes took place in the fruit hall . In 1953 the Progymnasium moved to the convalescent home. In 1954, the open-air theater had to give way to the new high school, which was completed in September 1955.

From 1972 to 1976 three pavilions with 11 additional classrooms were built and in 1987 the school was expanded with 18 new classrooms. The new gym was built from 1989 to 1991. In 1995/96 six lightweight school halls (containers) were built.

In 1996 it was decided to open an additional grammar school, initially as a branch in Ramstein , which became independent in 1999 and has been called Reichswald grammar school Ramstein-Miesenbach since 2014 .

In 1998 the school was named Sickingen-Gymnasium Landstuhl . In 2001 the new extension is occupied.
In 2003 Gerhard Dohna was appointed headmaster as successor to Manfred Leonhardt and Andrea Meiswinkel was appointed headmaster in 2010.
In 2012, 4 new rooms for the orientation level were inaugurated in the sports wing and the container was torn down.

School community

The college currently consists of 66 teachers, two secretaries and a librarian (as of 2019). The caretakers are also part of the staff.

  • MINT-friendly school: The school participates in the MINT project . This applies to the subjects of mathematics, computer science, biology, natural sciences, chemistry and physics. In addition to regular lessons, there are various working groups such as the school garden group, the technology and video group and the robotics group. At various competitions such as B. Youth presents , the day of mathematics or life with chemistry , the students can participate. For all students in grade 6, the subject of computers will be introduced in addition to the lesson table.

  • Young people presented and young people debated: Pupils from the Sickingen-Gymnasium regularly took part successfully in the nationwide competitions "Young people presented" and "Young people debated" organized by the Klaus Tschira Foundation .

SGL Journal

The Sickingen-Gymnasium has been nurturing the school community through media offers for years. A school homepage has existed since around 1997. As the successor to the school newspaper Collo , there has been an online school newspaper since the beginning of 2019, the SGL Journal, which is directed by upper school students and receives editorial support from all grades.
