Sidonia Elżbieta Jędrzejewska (born November 5, 1975 in Cracow ) is a Polish politician and has been a member of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) for the Civic Platform (PO) for the Greater Poland Voivodeship (Wielkopolskie) since 2009 .

Life and education

Jędrzejewska studied sociology at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and received her master's degree in 1998. Between 1999 and 2003 she was a doctoral student at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw . She was a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Education and Sport, the German Academic Exchange Service and the Stefan Batory Foundation. She studied in Bielefeld , Oxford , Stockholm and Berlin .

Professional background

Sidonia Jędrzejewska worked as a research assistant at the Central European University in Warsaw and as an administrator in the secretariat of the budget committee in the European Parliament . In 2006 she became a budget adviser in the Group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament . From January 2008 to June 2009 she held the post of Undersecretary in the Committee for European Integration .

In the mid-1990s she worked for the Young Democrats Association. From 1999 to 2003 she was deputy chairwoman of the Young European People's Party and from 2000 to 2002 deputy chairwoman of the European Youth Forum, based in Brussels .

She has been a member of Platforma Obywatelska since 2001 .

In 2009 she was elected as a member of the European Parliament .

  • Substitute for the delegation in the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee
  • Deputy for the delegation in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
  • Member of the intergroups "Animal Welfare", "Youth", "Urban", "Baltic Europe", "Tibet".

She was also a member of the special committee on political challenges and budgetary resources for a sustainable European Union after 2013.

Most of Sidonia Jędrzejewska's activities focus on EU budget matters. In 2010 she was general rapporteur for the EU budget for 2011. She then worked on the implementation of the budget. Since 2012 she has been Deputy Coordinator in the Group of the European People's Party in the EU Budget Committee. She was also the draftsman of the opinion on the EU program "ERASMUS FOR ALL".

As a member of the intergroup "Animal Welfare", Jędrzejewska is strongly committed to animal welfare. In 2012, for example, she was committed to improving the transport conditions for animals for slaughter. Sidonia Jędrzejewska is also involved in promoting public health. In November 2013 she organized a photo exhibition "The Beauty & the Breast" in the European Parliament about women who have successfully conquered their breast cancer.

In 2010 she was named "Best Debutante" in the European Parliament by the Polish weekly "Polityka" . In 2013 the newspaper published a ranking of Polish MEPs in which Jędrzejewska took first place.
