The Siebold stonecrop ( Hylotelephium Sieboldii (Sweet ex Hook.) H. Ohba , Syn . : Sedum Sieboldii Sweet ex Hook. ), Sometimes also called Theresienkraut , is a species of the genus Hylotelephium . The specific epithet Sieboldii honors the German doctor, natural scientist and orientalist Philipp Franz von Siebold . 3 varieties have been described.
features
The Siebold stonecrop is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 15 to 20 centimeters. It forms a rhizome . The stem is bent down and not rooted. The leaves are arranged in 3 (4) -fold whorls, roundish with a wedge-shaped base, blue-green in color with a red, little toothed edge and measure 1.3 to 2.5 × 1.3 to 2 centimeters. The crown is pink.
Flowering time is from September to October.
The species has chromosome number 2n = 50.
Occurrence
The Siebold sedum occurs in China and Japan on rocky corridors.
Systematics
One can distinguish at least two varieties:
- Hylotelephium Sieboldii var. Sieboldii : It occurs only in Japan.
- Hylotelephium Sieboldii var. Chinense H. Ohba : It occurs in southwestern Hubei .
use
The Siebold sedum plant is widely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens , alpine houses and traffic lights. It has been in culture since 1836 at the latest. The cultivar 'Mediovariegatum' has leaves with a yellowish white central point.
