Siegfried Dyck

Siegfried Dyck (born August 3, 1926 in Landsberg / Warthe ; † March 23, 2017 ) was a German hydrologist and university professor .

Life

Siegfried Dyck studied civil engineering at the TH Dresden from 1947 to 1952, specializing in hydraulic engineering. In 1956 he received his doctorate there.

As a Dipl.-Ing. he went to the Institute for Water Management (IfW) in Berlin. There Dyck soon took over the management of the department "Hydrology and Water Volume Management".

In 1967 Dyck was appointed professor at the Technical University of Dresden and became the head of the newly founded Institute for Hydrology . The Dresden School of Hydrology was very interdisciplinary. This was unique in Germany well into the 1970s.

The international appreciation of Dyck's work was also evident in the functions assigned to him: President of the International Commission for Water Resources Systems , elected first Vice President of the IAHS from 1987 to 1991, activities in the IHD and the IHP of UNESCO and the OHP of the WMO . In 1992 the IAHS awarded him the International Hydrology Price .

Dyck was a corresponding member of the GDR Academy of Sciences since 1986 and a full member since 1990 .
