Siegfried Haß

Siegfried Haß (born June 7, 1898 in Burg an der Wupper in the Lennep district , Rhine Province ; † December 14, 1987 in Nordhorn , Lower Saxony ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general in World War II .

Life

During the First World War, Haß joined the Reserve Jäger Battalion No. 1 on August 12, 1916 as a flag boy . From February to the end of June 1917 he was assigned to the Döberitz War School and then he and his battalion came to the front. Due to injury, he was in the hospital in August 1917, then back at the front, where he was promoted to lieutenant on July 20, 1918 . After the end of the war, return home and demobilization, he briefly joined the Yorck Freikorps and was then accepted into the Reichswehr .

As battalion commander in Infantry Regiment 57 of the 9th Infantry Division , he served in the western campaign and then in the German-Soviet War . From October 27, 1941, Haß was appointed commander of the 57 Infantry Regiment . Since November 5, 1943, he was transferred to the leader reserve and attended a division leader course in Berlin. Subsequently, from January 30, 1944, Haß was entrusted with the deputy leadership of the 11th Infantry Division . He commanded the unit until February 1944. From February 16, 1944, he was entrusted with the command of the 170th Infantry Division , and on June 1, 1944, Haß was appointed Major General. After the end of the war , Haß was taken prisoner by the British , from which he was released in July 1947.

After the end of the Nazi regime, he lived in Siegerland, where he was chairman of the Association of German Soldiers .
