Siegfried Sommer (politician)

Siegfried Sommer (born October 25, 1925 in Möhrenbach ; † May 9, 2003 ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1965 to 1969 he was Lord Mayor of Eisenhüttenstadt and then until 1989 Chairman of the Council of the Frankfurt (Oder) District .

Life

Siegfried Sommer completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic and was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1943. From 1944 to 1947 he was a British prisoner of war. After his return, Sommer worked as a teacher at the Saalfeld trade school until 1949 . In 1949 and 1950 Siegfried Sommer was head of the company vocational school of the state- owned company in Saalfeld, after which he was a professional trainer at the Association of People's Own Companies in Leipzig. 1951 Siegfried Sommer joined the SED.

In 1951, Sommer was transferred to the Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost in Fürstenberg (Oder) as head of the "Training and Vocational Training" department . There he was director of the vocational school from 1953 to 1954 and then until 1955 the party organizer of the central committee of the VEB Eisenhüttenwerke Stalinstadt. From 1957 to 1960 Siegfried Sommer was secretary of the SED district leadership of the Fürstenberg district . Subsequently, until 1962, he was secretary of the SED district leadership of the city of Frankfurt (Oder) . From 1962 to 1965, Sommer finally studied social sciences at the party college of the CPSU . In 1965 Siegfried Sommer was elected Lord Mayor of Eisenhüttenstadt, and in 1969 he was elected Chairman of the Frankfurt (Oder) District Council. Werner Viertel was his successor as Lord Mayor of Eisenhüttenstadt . After 20 years in office, Siegfried Sommer was replaced as District Council Chairman shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall .
