Siegfried Wehrmeister (* 1949 in Heiligenstadt / Eichsfeld ) is a Berlin- based sculptor who mainly created busts and sculptures of various people in the districts of Mitte , Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Marzahn-Hellersdorf .

Life

Siegfried Wehrmeister grew up in the nearby Glasehausen , a small town with then 200, now 180 inhabitants. After completing an apprenticeship as a stonemason , an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor followed from 1969 to 1971 and, in 1973, a qualification as a font maker.

Siegfried Wehrmeister has lived and worked in Berlin in the trendy district of Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg since 1974 . 1974 to 1977 he worked as a stone sculptor and restorer in the VEB Stuck und Naturstein in the stone sculpting collective J. Klimes. In 1977 he began studying at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art , which he completed in 1982 with a diploma from Jo Jastram .

Siegfried Wehrmeister has been working as a freelancer since then. His work has been bought by both the public and private institutions. From 1987 to 1989 he taught sculptural design in a general school, but gave up this activity in favor of his sculpting and restoration activities. After the fall of the Wall , he continued to run his sculpting workshop and also made small sculptures. Since 2004 he has been advising and supporting the Immanuelgemeinde in Prenzlauer Berg in planning and implementing art-historical and art-educational projects. He also gives art tours upon registration.

Siegfried Wehrmeister became a member of what later became the Professional Association of Fine Arts in 1986, a member of the International Society of Fine Arts in 1992 and a member of the later Association of Restorers in 2001.

  • Gable pictures ; PAC colors on concrete slabs. A 15 meter high and 10 meter wide sports figure in the form of a pictogram , around 1981/82
    Location: on the northern and southern windowless gables of the former 24th secondary school in Franz-Stenzer-Straße  41 in Berlin-Marzahn
    Description: With a few contrasting colored areas in Graduated from orange to beige, a person was designed with raised arms in a slight step over the entire height and width of the wall. With the demolition of the school building in 2005, the pictures disappeared.
  • Sehnsucht , 1984/86; Bronze, dimensions 0.83 × 0.16 × 0.16 m The
    location was in Friedrichshain Hospital in front of houses 11–15; the figure was not found during an inspection in 2010.
    Description: On a narrow, columnar limestone plinth is a standing woman with a strong, bulging body, who turns her head sharply to the left.
  • Bust of Ernst Ludwig Heim , 1986; Bronze
    Location: Helene-Weigel-Platz in the district of Berlin-Marzahn . After its inauguration on September 23, 1989, the portrait sculpture was set up on the square in front of the entrance to the polyclinic, which in 1984 had received the honorary name of this poor doctor. After the redesign of the square in the 2000s, the work was repositioned in 2005 in the foyer of the nearby library. It is a commissioned work in memory of the doctor Ernst Ludwig Heim (1747–1834), an honorary citizen of Berlin.
    Description: A head about 60 cm high without a trunk emphasizes the doctor's distinctive facial features. At its new location, the bust was given a small bronze square base that was attached to a round iron rod and can thus be viewed at eye level with the visitor.
  • Werner Steinbrinck memorial stele , 1988, marble on granite
    Location: Mühlenbecker Weg / Zühlsdorfer Straße 20–22, Berlin-Marzahn
    In memory of Werner Steinbrink (1917–1942) who was murdered by the National Socialists and who made the incendiary devices with which members of Herbert Baum- led resistance group set fire to an anti-Soviet exhibition. - The reason for the commission was the naming of the 24th high school in 1983. The memorial stele was ceremoniously unveiled in October 1988.
    Description: The column consists of tall, rectangular blocks, on the top there are symbolic relief representations for the resistance struggle. On the front of the column the words of Johannes R. Becher were chiseled:
    And from being lost as well as from loss there resulted change and a resurrection. “On the back, which was designed with an aspiring male figure, the following inscription can be read:“ Werner Steinbrink / his comrades / and friends. "
  • Bust for the popular doctor and writer Alfred Döblin , 1992; Bronze, the casting was done by Seiler.
    Location: Karl-Marx-Allee  131 A, in front of the Kosmos cinema . In 2010, non-ferrous metal thieves stole the bust. After it was reported in the media and called for donations, the required around 13,000 euros for a refill came together. This was carried out by the Flierl company in July 2011 using the plaster model available at Wehrmeister and handed over to the district office. For security reasons, the bust was placed in the foyer of the nearby district central library, which opened in 2010.
    Description: The artist formed a head about 45 cm high with a neck, but without shoulders as usual. The bust stands on a 140 cm high base. Wehrmeister attached particular importance to Döblin's characteristic features such as the narrow face, the protruding nose and the mischievous smile; his glasses are also indicated.
    When presenting the additional cast, Wehrmeister said that it was better than the first work.
