The Siemens IT Solutions and Services GmbH (from the English solutions and services for "solutions and services") is the German subsidiary of the French IT service provider Atos . The company offers consulting, system integration, management of IT infrastructures and industry-specific IT solutions and thus covers the entire IT service chain from one source, from consulting to system integration and maintenance.

The company emerged from the IT division of Siemens and until August 2011 was called “Siemens IT Solutions and Services GmbH” (SIS for short). The sale to the French company Atos was already known at the end of 2010 . After the transaction, Siemens holds a 15 percent stake in Atos and is also its largest customer. In the Siemens group, SIS supported the Siemens industry, energy supply and healthcare sectors with IT expertise. A special focus is on fully integrated and industry-specific IT solutions that are developed together with the Siemens sectors.

The SIS was formed in January 2007 and generated sales of around 4.2 billion euros in the 2010 financial year. Internationally represented in 42 countries, SIS employed around 32,000 people worldwide.

history

SIS originally emerged from the outsourcing of Siemens' internal IT departments to a separate company. Siemens Business Services GmbH & Co. OHG (SBS) was founded on October 1, 1995 as a subsidiary of Siemens AG. The young company started with 2,100 employees and generated sales of one billion German marks in its first business year. The core business consisted in offering services, especially for Siemens AG.

On October 1, 1998, Siemens Nixdorf was dissolved as a stock corporation and fully integrated into Siemens AG, with large parts moving to SBS. In 1999, SNI hardware and computer production was incorporated into the Fujitsu Siemens Computers AG joint venture .

Within the Siemens group, SBS had been one of the "problem children" of the group management since August 2001 due to falling prices and management errors. In the financial year (ended September 30, 2005), SBS had 36,100 employees worldwide and had sales of 5.373 billion euros, including 2.3 billion euros in Germany. According to its own information, the division achieved 23 percent of its sales with its parent company .

On October 1, 2006, after the spin-off of the Product Related Services (PRS) unit , the previous global group divisions Operation Related Services and Solution Business (SOL) - which remained with Fujitsu Siemens Computers - were combined. The SOL area offered software solutions for customers from the manufacturing industry and the public sector . SOL generated around 30 percent of its sales in the field of SAP consulting.

On January 15, 2007, Siemens Business Services GmbH & Co. OHG was renamed Siemens IT Solution and Services GmbH & Co. OHG (SIS).

June 1, 2007, the SIS GmbH & Co. OHG sent by accretion as division Siemens IT Solutions and Services incorporated into the Siemens AG. Later, by merging SIS with other units, the cross-sector business area Siemens IT Solutions and Services was created. In addition to SIS itself, these were PSE (Program and System Engineering, Austria), SISL (Siemens Information Systems Ltd., India), DIP (Development Innovation and Projects, Greece) and BIC (Business Innovation Center, Switzerland).

On October 1, 2010, SIS was converted into an independent company, Siemens IT Solutions & Services GmbH. In the course of this conversion, around 4,200 of the 35,000 jobs at SIS are to be reduced by 2011; including around 2,000 of the current 9,700 positions in Germany.

On December 14, 2010, Siemens announced the sale of the company SIS to Atos Origin (renamed “Atos” after the acquisition) in July 2011, subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities and the buyer's shareholders. The sale was completed on July 1, 2011 with the approval of Atos shareholders.

Companies

The former SIS mainly offers services. This includes consulting, system integration, IT infrastructure management and software development.

After some major losses, the Siemens division was now back in the black and achieved a division result of 90 million euros in fiscal year 2009 (October 2008 to September 2009).

SIS recently employed around 35,000 people worldwide and achieved sales of around 4.7 billion euros (fiscal year 2009).

Today's Atos IT Solutions and Services GmbH is also the owner of various IT outsourcing companies, for example Atos IT service and consulting (formerly SBI Ruhr), WIVERTIS or Applied International Informatics .
