Sierpin (German Serpin , Serpien , also Zerpien ) is a small village in the urban / rural municipality Elbląg in the powiat Elbląski ( Elbing district ) of the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Sierpin is located in West Prussia , about 10 kilometers east of the city of Elbląg on the Elbingschen Höhe ( Wysoczyzna Elbląska ) and 25 kilometers south of the beach on the open Baltic Sea . The village is located at an altitude of about 116 meters above sea level. The north-eastern border between Poland and Russia is about 40 kilometers away.

history

In 1246 a place Zerewet was mentioned in the oldest surviving mention of Elbing, possibly it was this place. The Zerpin estate was first mentioned in 1286 .

Serpin has belonged to the Elbing district since the 19th century . A school was built in 1818. In 1820 there were nine campfire sites with 182 inhabitants. The school burned down in 1896 and was rebuilt two years later. In 1920 210 people lived in the village.

Sierpin has been part of Poland since 1945. The main source of income for the village is still agriculture. In 2011, 61 people lived here.
