The Type 148 is a container feeder vessel type of Sietas in Neuenfelde .
history
The type 148 is a further development of the type 129 and was ordered by various shipping companies from the late 1980s. Sietas delivered the first four ships of the series from March to June 1992, two more followed in the spring of 1994. Initially, they were mainly used on feeder services in the North and Baltic Seas, and later also in the Mediterranean. The Jupiter and the Regia were converted into cattle trucks in 2012/13 .

The three box-shaped holds with a volume of 8,157 m³ are equipped with cell guides for the transport of containers and the transport of dangerous goods containers. Due to the shape of the holds, this type of ship can also be used in cellulose or parcel wood transport. The tank tops are reinforced for stowing heavy cargo. With the same hatch dimensions as the type 129 and slightly larger ship dimensions, the type 148 has a larger container capacity and is considerably more flexible to load. One more container can be stowed in width and the space in front of the deckhouse can accommodate 40-foot containers instead of 20-foot containers. In addition, the ship is set up for the transport of extra-long and extra-wide containers of the most common special dimensions. Hydraulically operated folding hatch covers reinforced with heavy cargo were used, which can be opened separately for individual container bays.
The ships in the series are powered by a MAN 6L48 / 60 diesel engine that acts on a controllable pitch propeller , while the docking and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
The ice-reinforced hulls were assembled in a sectional construction.
