The type HG is a type of coaster from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde , of which six units were built in 1955. It was the first Sietas ships to receive a type designation.
history
The coaster type was ordered by various shipping companies in the mid-1950s. The first ship of this series ordered was the Hertha Gerdau , whose first letters served as the type designation. Sietas delivered the six HG ships from September to the end of December 1955. Initially, they were mainly used in small and medium-sized journeys . They were found later, partly in a rebuilt condition and mostly without loading gear , in coastal voyages around the world.
The Martin Lütje capsized on March 15, 1961 after a collision with the Scheldt Lloyd and stranded a day later drifting keel up off Vlissingen . The heavily damaged ship was erected on July 28, 1961 and put back into service after extensive repairs.
technology
The type HG was a single decker with a length of 51.06 m (45.00 m Lpp , 47.62 m freeboard length ) and a width of 8.94 m. He had two holds . Due to the largely unobstructed shape of the cargo holds with little undercutting , this type of ship was also used in cellulose or wooden parcel shipping. The ships had a continuous double floor with a level tank ceiling. Simple wooden hatch covers with a sea-proof tarpaulin cover were used. As standard, the ships had two cargo booms with a load capacity of two tons. They were powered by a four-stroke diesel engine from the manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD), which acted on a fixed propeller. The engines were throttled to 300 hp.
The Martin Lütje was lengthened in 1958 at the Sietas shipyard by 7.70 m to a total of 58.76 m (52.70 m Lpp, 55.32 m freeboard length) and converted to an intermediate deck . Here, the ship was given an additional mast amidships , on which two more cargo booms were mounted. The Frieda Wilckens was extended in the same way in 1964, but without the loading harness being extended.
