Sigma-DP series

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the Sigma-DP series , Sigma covers the area of high-end compact cameras . There is now the ninth model in this class. There are three series within this product line, which basically only differ in their fixed focal length . The DP1 series offers a focal length of 28 mm (converted to 35mm format ), the current version is the DP1 Merrill . The second series is that of the DP2 with 45 mm focal length (converted to 35mm format), the current version of which is the DP2 Merrill. With a fixed focal length of 75 mm, the DP3 Merrill offers the longest focal length of the DP series and should round off the entire product line.

Sigma DP1

Sigma DP1

The Sigma DP is a high-end compact camera released by Sigma. It was first announced on September 26, 2006.

The main features are a 16 mm F4.0 fixed focal length lens (equivalent to 28 mm with a 35 mm sensor), a 2.5 ″ LCD, integrated flash and a 4 megapixel Foveon X3 sensor ( 2652 × 1768 × 3 layers), which allows interpolation to 14 megapixels . This makes it the first compact camera with an APS-C sensor that is around 8 to 12 times larger than the sensors typically used in compact cameras with 1 / 1.8 ″ to 1 / 2.5 ″ (see format factor ). The current firmware is version 2.00.

Sigma DP1s

The Sigma DP1s is the successor to the DP1 and should bring some improvements in details, such as the speed of the storage process and backlit photos. In addition, some buttons can now be assigned according to personal preferences. Otherwise the camera has the basic data of the DP1.

Sigma DP1x

The Sigma DP1x with an improved "TRUE-II" image processor

The Sigma DP1x is the successor to the DP1s. In contrast to its predecessor, this camera uses the "TRUE-II" image processor of the DP2 and an improved AF algorithm for faster autofocus . The DP1x also received the “QS” (Quick-Set) button of the DP2, an energy-saving mode was introduced and the controls on the back were printed slightly differently. The design of the menu has been changed, it should now look more modern and be easier to use. The current firmware is version 1.03.

Sigma DP2

The Sigma DP2 is the sister model of the DP1 and has been on the German market since summer 2009. The 24.2 mm F2.8 fixed focal length lens (small image equivalent focal length 41 mm) is new. The DP2 is equipped with the successor to the "TRUE" image processor , the new "TRUE-II" image processor and a 14 megapixel Foveon X3 direct image sensor . The current firmware is version 1.05.

Sigma DP2s

The Sigma DP2s is the successor to the Sigma DP2. The changes to the predecessor consist of an improved AF algorithm, which should enable faster autofocus. Furthermore, there is now an energy-saving mode . The menu was designed differently, it should now look more modern and be easier to use. The control elements on the back received a different printing. The current firmware is version 1.01.

Sigma DP2x

Rear view of the Sigma DP2x

In February 2011, Sigma announced the DP2x. The changes compared to the DP2s consist of a further improved AF algorithm and the use of the AFE ( Analog Front End ). This is responsible for converting the sensor signals into the image files and should enable better image results than was previously the case. The current firmware is version 1.02.

Sigma DP1 Merrill

DP1 Merrill and DP2 Merrill

With the DP1 Merrill, Sigma announced the next generation of the DP1 in February 2012. In addition to the existing ISO levels, the DP1 Merrill now has the 1600, 3200 and 6400 ISO levels available. In addition to the 15.4 megapixels of the image sensor , the display resolution has also been greatly improved with 920,000 pixels. The maximum image resolution reaches 4,800 × 3,200 pixels, the video mode now creates a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels. The current firmware is version 1.04.

Attention: The battery, charger, power supply unit, lens hood and filter are no longer compatible with the previous series DP1 to DP1x!

Sigma DP2 Merrill

A year later - also in February - Sigma announced the successor to the DP2x in addition to the DP1 Merrill. In addition to the existing ISO levels, the DP2 Merrill now has the 1600, 3200 and 6400 ISO levels, while level 50 is no longer available. With an effective 14.75 megapixels, the resolution of the image sensor has been significantly increased compared to its predecessor (4.7 megapixels). The change is clear in the 3-inch display with a resolution of 920,000 pixels. The maximum image resolution is 4,704 × 3,136 pixels, the video mode now reaches 640 × 480 pixels. In addition to the auto focus, there is now also the option of manual focus. The current firmware is version 1.05.

Attention: The battery, charger, power supply unit, lens hood and filter are no longer compatible with the previous series DP2 to DP2x!

Sigma DP3 Merrill

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2013, Sigma announced the completion of the DP range with the model of the DP3 Merrill. The technical properties of the DP3 are completely based on those of its predecessors or the DP2 Merrill. With the 50 mm F2.8 lens, which is equivalent to 75 mm in 35mm format, the DP3 Merrill - according to the manufacturer - completes the DP series with the middle telephoto and macro range. The current firmware is version 1.02.
