The Sigma SD15 is the fourth digital SLR camera from Sigma after the SD9 , SD10 and SD 14 . The SD15 has been developed from the SD14.

Like all Sigma digital SLR cameras, the SD15 uses a Foveon X3 direct image sensor . The camera has a Sigma interchangeable lens connection that corresponds to the K bayonet with a flange focal length of 1.5 mm (44 mm). The use of M42 system lenses is possible by using an adapter.

Unlike its predecessor models SD9 and SD10, like the SD14, it has a built-in flash unit , can save images in JPEG mode and no longer has the Sigma external bayonet of the predecessor (for which lenses were never offered). The Sigma inner bayonet remained compatible. The number of pixels of the CMOS image sensor is around 4.7 million for each of the colors red, green and blue, so that around 14 million measured values are available for each image.

The SD15 is equipped with the new "TRUE II" image processor. The images are saved on SD or SDHC and MMC cards, replacing the previously used CF cards.

The successor is the further developed SD1 Merrill with higher sensor resolution, whereby the SD15 is currently still available.
