The Sigma SD9 of Sigma is the first digital SLR that the Foveon X3 direct image sensor used and was introduced to the market of 2002.

The camera has a Sigma interchangeable lens connection (SIGMA SA bayonet).

It has manually adjustable exposure indices from ISO 100 to 400 and has a fastest shutter speed of 1/6000 s. One feature of the camera is that RAW files are output as raw files in the highest resolution or JPEG in 3 different resolutions, which can be converted to image files (TIFF or JPEG) on the computer using the software supplied (SIGMA Photo Pro). The Sigma Photo Pro program (currently version 6.3.0) is currently available for MacOS X 10.7+ and Windows 7+. A direct download of the images via cable is no longer possible for these systems due to the lack of drivers. A USB card reader is recommended for data transfer.

The successor to the SD9 is the SD10 .
