Sigrid Eberle (born March 3, 1952 in Dornbirn ) is a former Austrian ski racer . She won two races in the European Cup and was once among the top ten in the World Cup .

biography

As a teenager, Eberle was also active as an artistic gymnast and track and field athlete , but from the mid-1960s onwards she mainly concentrated on ski racing. Her sister Ingrid Eberle , who is five years her junior , also became a ski racer, and her father was active in Nordic skiing in the 1950s . Eberle completed a commercial apprenticeship and worked as an accountant . In the winter of 1967/1968 she reached the first podium in an FIS race with second place in the slalom of Les Gets . In January 1969, not far from her home town of Dornbirn, she made her debut in the World Cup at the gold key races in Montafon . She finished 18th in the slalom. The next winter she was 13th in the Maribor slalom . Similar World Cup results followed in the next few years, but a placement in the World Cup points, i.e. among the top ten, was initially unsuccessful.

Apart from the World Cup, Eberle achieved several victories and podium places. In 1970 she won an FIS slalom in Sterzing and in 1971 an FIS downhill run in Haus im Ennstal . Also in 1971 she was third in the slalom of the Austrian championships . In the 1971/72 season she won two races in the newly introduced European Cup , a giant slalom in Les Gets and a descent in Thyon . In the winter of 1972/73 , Eberle finally won World Cup points for the first and only time in her career when she finished sixth on the downhill run from St. Moritz on February 10th . After her marriage to Anton Dorner , who was also a ski racer, Eberle gave birth to a son that same year, which is why she initially took a break from competition in the winter of 1973/1974 and announced that she would retire from ski racing at the beginning of the 1974/1975 season.
