Sigrid Poser

Sigrid Poser (born August 19, 1941 in Stuttgart as Sigrid Wahl , † June 23, 2004 ) was a German neurologist and a long-time professor at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . Her work and research focus were in particular multiple sclerosis and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease .

Life

Sigrid Wahl grew up in Tübingen and passed her Abitur in 1959 at the Uhland grammar school there. After studying medicine in Tübingen, Erlangen , Hamburg , Vienna and Göttingen , she received a doctorate from the University of Göttingen in 1967. med. PhD. After a clinical stay abroad at Lawrence General Hospital in Massachusetts , she began her specialist training in neurology in 1970 as a research assistant at the Göttingen University Clinics for Neurology and Psychiatry. In the same year she married the pharmacologist Wolfgang Poser, their two children were born in 1975 and 1976.

Act

After completing his habilitation in neurology in 1975, Sigrid Poser received a position as senior physician at the Neurological University Clinic in Göttingen in 1976. This was followed in 1978 as an adjunct professor, and in 1980 finally appointed as a C3 professor for life and deputy to the clinic director Helmut Bauer , who was one of her clinical and scientific teachers. She lived and worked in Göttingen until her death in 2004.

For 30 years, Sigrid Poser dealt clinically (as a senior physician at the Neurological University Polyclinic) and scientifically with the clinical picture of multiple sclerosis. Her focus was on epidemiology in Germany, therapy studies with new drugs as well as the support of patient counseling and self-help.

In the second half of her professional activity, she established the clinical surveillance of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in Germany and headed the Göttingen prion research group (today the National Reference Center for the Surveillance of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies). She retired in 2001, but continued her academic career until her death.

From 1997 to 2004 Sigrid Poser was an extraordinary member of the Drugs Commission of the German Medical Association (AkdÄ).
